Creating a vibrant sustainability community hub
Swire Properties has long been a defining presence in Hong Kong’s urban landscape, extending its impact across the Chinese Mainland, Singapore and the United States. Through initiatives like the Green Performance Pledge (GPP), Swire goes beyond property development — cultivating resilient, vibrant communities with a unified vision for lasting impact.
Following our recommendations to Swire Properties’ Sustainable Development team, SR was engaged to design and build a platform that showcases tenants’ best practices, expands the GPP’s influence and inspires meaningful progress. This digital platform is informed by tenant insights and enriched with articles on best practices and key community events, serving as a dynamic repository of the latest tools, ideas and strategies for tackling today’s energy, water and waste challenges.
THE CHALLENGE
The GPP tenant programme is a key differentiator for Swire Properties, cementing the company’s role as a leader in championing sustainable business practices across its value chain. As the GPP gained popularity, the Swire Properties team was faced with the task of ensuring tenants were fully engaged and empowered to benefit from the programme.
To address this challenge, SR worked with the team to build a platform that would:
- Showcase the inspirational work of forward-thinking tenants, allowing the community to learn from one another and exchange best practices.
- Raise awareness of sustainability campaigns and events while encouraging tenant participation.
Swire tenants include multi-national companies, with global environmental mandates around topics such as energy, water, waste, wellness and biodiversity. The participating tenant base represent a variety of sectors including finance, luxury, legal, information technology and beyond. Therefore, the platform content needed to appeal to a diverse audience.
STRATEGY TO EXECUTION
SR’s task has been to develop a platform that expands the GPP’s impact beyond individual tenants to foster a collective sense of purpose. This platform:
- Serves as a resource base and forum for exchanging ideas and gaining insights from others.
- Strengthens relationships among Swire Properties and participating tenants and inspires action.
- Enhances brand reputation for tenants who showcase their sustainability strategies, approaches and initiatives.
- Establishes Swire as a destination brand for tenants who value sustainability.
Through curated content, highlights on sustainability initiatives and stories from tenants, the GPP website is becoming a central hub for engagement. A bi-monthly newsletter further encourages dialogue, featuring interviews and updates on events and workshops.
PLATFORM FOR ENGAGEMENT
SR’s work has strengthened the GPP brand as the website and newsletters serve to spread the word on GPP initiatives to a growing audience dedicated to lasting impact. The platform enables forward-looking tenants to share new mindsets and practices in areas such as office design, resource management and employee engagement. Swire Properties’ approach is now a model for the industry. It reinforces brand leadership in sustainability and builds a more connected, engaged tenant base.
